Was it Barnum and Bailey who coined the phrase: "there's a sucker born every minute ?" Anyway, it's amazing to me how Coca-Cola, the Green Movement, and others, exploit the poor and ignorant in the Philippines. Don't mis-understand; I love capitalism and all that--but I find it troubling that so many Filipinos guzzle so much Coke (including children)--many times with no ice to break down the acidity--and that the Green Movement would reach a place where many people have to go to the local well for water (and there's not always water there), have to work in un-bearable heat for peanuts, shanty-towns, etc. ad nauseum.
They even required some gov't workers to send something to Haiti. I almost fell out of my chair. The gall of the Do-Gooders is absolutely appalling.

Much like the door-to-door Christian CULTS of our time, Al Gore has discovered how to spread his Global Warming nonsense in light of the fact that the West now is realizing the hoax. I hadn't paid much attention to where or to whom he was speaking nowadays; but I was in the big mall in Manila the other day and saw his mug plastered all over for his upcoming speech there in June.

Not having much luck in the West (with the exception of the loyalists), Mr. Gore--the first Green Billionaire--will now exploit the THIRD WORLD. The Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses and others have known this dirty little secret for years. The difference with Mr. Gore, in this case, is that he will be speaking to the well-to-do of the THIRD WORLD, rather than the poor. Of course even the rich of the THIRD WORLD are just as superstitious as the poor.

Shame on you, Al Gore.

Many people think that cigarette companies are bad because they would try to exploit the poor of the world by selling them cigarettes. I submit that the Coca-Cola company is just as bad. Here in the Philippines, Coke is as popular as water. They drink it at dinnertime, if not at 3 meals a day, every day (at least for those who can afford it). Everywhere you go, there are ads for a brand of Rum called Tanduay, and Coke. Every small store (sari-sari store) has Coke and the aforementioned Rum.
I am curious as to what these multi-billion peso companies are doing for these communities--since they are helping to destroy people's health.
I understand the appeal of Coke, and I drink it. Call me a hypocrite if you like, I don't care. People should be made to understand that, like many things, Coke can cause harm to your body when not taken in moderation. Drinking phosphoric acid and all that sugar is not one bit beneficial to anyone. I felt it the other day as I drank some: I was desperate for something cold and quick; so I bought a 12 oz. bottle and drank it down on an empty stomach (I so know better). Anyway, hours later, when I did the same thing with some other soda, the pain was excruciating in my esophagus.
The damage I've done to myself with a combination of Coke and chewing tobacco--makes me leary of people drinking so much of it. It troubles me when I see small children drinking it, and I don't allow my children to do it. As my cousin once said: "it's like drinking Battery Acid." He's right.
